When people meet life-long Gig Harbor resident Troy Burki they’re usually impressed by this young man’s humble self-confidence. As they get to know him better, they’re not surprised to learn that he played NCAA Division I baseball in college or that he’s currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sociology. His success as an athlete and academic are evident, as is a bright future. 

That wasn’t always the case. While attending Gig Harbor High School, Troy experienced two sports-related concussions and began losing short-term memory function, had difficulty sleeping, and significant trouble concentrating both in and out of the classroom. His parents were concerned about his health as well as his future. 

Like most fathers, Lee Burki, with a background in occupational safety and health as well as being a coach, began looking into whether the brain can recover from concussion. This is how he found Brain State Technologies and brainwave optimization. He learned about the power the brain has for healing itself and the promise this might hold for Troy. 

At this point Troy was attending New Mexico State University. With a Brain State Technologies affiliate in the area Troy was able to complete a brainwave optimization program. Following his training sessions he found the concentration and sleep difficulties a thing of the past. His cognitive performance improved and he was soon back on track, finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Lee was so impressed by the results his son experienced that he too completed brain training. 

But this father and son team didn’t stop there. Lee and Troy are passionate about helping others improve their lives. They both became Master Level certified with Brain State Technologies and opened Sound Brain right here in Gig Harbor.
